Verydarkman vows to Lead protest against EFCC. Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, has announced plans to lead a protest against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the agency of mistreating Nigerian youths. In a video shared online, the activist criticized the EFCC for allegedly profiling young Nigerians as internet fraudsters, or “Yahoo boys,” based on their appearance and the cars they drive.
Verydarkman, who has gained a reputation for speaking out on social issues, highlighted that the EFCC often targets youths driving luxury cars like Mercedes-Benz or Lexus without concrete evidence of wrongdoing. He also called out the EFCC for raiding university hostels and arresting students under suspicion of cybercrime, noting that many of those arrested were never listed as wanted by the agency.
The activist also took a swipe at the EFCC Chairman, reminding him of a promise to resign if he failed to arrest former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, for alleged financial misconduct. “He has not lived up to his words,” Verydarkman said, challenging the EFCC boss to focus on individuals with substantial evidence against them instead of harassing innocent youths.
Verydarkman urged fellow youths to join him in the planned protest, stating that he would soon announce a date for the demonstration. His video has sparked widespread support on social media, with many expressing their willingness to participate in the protest and applauding his efforts to speak up against perceived injustices.
One commenter wrote, “Any protest concerning EFCC, even if it’s 2am, wake me up,” while another added, “Finally, someone had to say it. VDM, you’ve already made me love you.” Others praised the activist for consistently addressing social issues, with one user stating, “VDM is actually very good at what he does; he’s always 95% right.”
The activist’s latest move comes after his earlier criticism of the current state of affairs in Nigeria, where he has been vocal about issues ranging from corruption to the treatment of ordinary citizens by government agencies.
