Tinubu tells Nigerians: “no more free beer parlour”. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to brace for hard work and support his administration’s efforts to rebuild the nation’s economy. He emphasized that there are no shortcuts to prosperity, stating that “there is no free beer parlour anymore.”
The President made these remarks during a visit by the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Tinubu acknowledged the hardships faced by many Nigerians but urged patience and resilience as his government undertakes economic reforms.
“People say we’re hungry; yes, I understand that. We don’t want to keep the people hungry and angry, but we say be patient we must work hard. There is no free beer parlour anymore. We’ll retool and rebuild Nigeria’s economy,” President Tinubu said.
The President’s comments come amid rising discontent over recent economic policies, particularly the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the Naira. The elimination of the petrol subsidy on Tinubu’s first day in office caused fuel prices to triple, with filling stations in Abuja now selling petrol between N950 and N1,100 per liter.
