Sophie Turner Reflects on Challenges of Single Motherhood Following Divorce from Joe Jonas
British actress Sophie Turner has opened up about the difficulties of being a single mother after her high-profile divorce from singer Joe Jonas.
In a candid interview ahead of the release of her new six-part crime series Joan, the Game of Thrones star admitted that balancing motherhood with her career has been a significant challenge.
Turner, 28, and Jonas, 35, finalized their divorce earlier this month after a year-long process, which had been complicated by custody battles over their two daughters, Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Turner described how her latest role as real-life criminal Joan Hannington came at a pivotal time in her life, giving her the strength to face the challenges ahead.
She revealed, “If I hadn’t been a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy into the role. It’s such a struggle being a single mother.”
Turner and Jonas married in 2019 in a surprise Las Vegas ceremony after the Billboard Music Awards. However, their marriage came to an end in September 2023 when Jonas filed for divorce, citing that the relationship had become “irretrievably broken.” Despite their separation, the former couple remains focused on co-parenting their daughters.
The actress’s latest series, Joan, explores the life of notorious criminal Joan Hannington, and Turner says the role has had a transformative impact on her, offering her a renewed sense of ambition and resilience.
