Rema Claims He Pioneered EP Trend in Nigerian Music

Nigerian music sensation, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has claimed that he introduced the Extended Play (EP) trend in Nigeria’s music scene. During his appearance on The Breakfast Club, Rema said his impact has been significant, but young artists like himself are often discouraged from acknowledging their own achievements.

The ‘Calm Down‘ hitmaker explained that when he entered the industry, he brought a new template for success, particularly with the release of EPs, a trend that has since been adopted by new artists in the Afrobeats genre.

“When I came into the game, I brought a template. I started the EP trend. Every new Afrobeats artist since 2019 followed that path,” Rema stated.

He further added that while many may argue about his influence in Afrobeats, he feels compelled to acknowledge his contributions, especially since no one else seems to do so.
