Peter Obi, Labour Party donate ₦50 Million to Borno flood victims. In response to the devastating floods that have ravaged Borno State, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has announced a ₦50 million donation to support victims affected by the disaster. Obi made this announcement during a solidarity visit to the state on Tuesday, where he was accompanied by key party officials, including the LP Caretaker Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, and his 2023 vice-presidential running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed.
During the visit, Obi and his team met with Governor Babagana Zulum to express their condolences and offer assistance to those affected by the floods, which have claimed numerous lives and destroyed properties across the region. In addition to the initial donation, Obi promised that the party would continue to provide more support for the victims.
In a statement released on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi detailed his visit, which included stops at the Bank of the North spare parts market, where traders lost their goods, and an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp at Government College, where thousands of displaced residents are currently taking refuge. Obi also visited a woman who tragically lost her newborn twins in the flood.
“The Labour Party is committed to supporting those affected by the devastating floods in Borno State. To demonstrate our solidarity, we have made an initial donation of ₦50M to the state government. But our support doesn’t stop there,” Obi stated.
The former governor of Anambra State emphasized the party’s dedication to providing ongoing aid and resources to help the people of Borno rebuild their lives and recover from the tragedy. He extended his gratitude to the Borno State government and other authorities for their intervention efforts and urged for continuous support for the affected communities.
“As the people of Borno navigate this challenging time, we want them to know they are not alone,” Obi assured, adding that the party’s thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones and those still struggling to recover from the disaster.
The floods have submerged much of Maiduguri, the state capital, and displaced thousands of residents. Obi prayed for the swift recovery of those injured and for God’s blessing on Borno State and Nigeria as they work towards recovery from the tragedy.
