PDP governors back Fubara as Rivers State party leader. Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, has reaffirmed the Forum’s decision to support Rivers State Governor Similaye Fubara as the leader of the PDP in Rivers State. Governor Mohammed emphasized that as the top-ranking member of the party in the state, Fubara should have control over the party’s structure.
Following a meeting with a delegation from the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) at the Governor’s Office in Bauchi, Mohammed highlighted the importance of unity within the party. He described the discussions with the NWC, led by National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN, as productive, focusing on the historical significance of the PDP, its legacy of good governance during its 16 years in power, and its commitment to rule of law and national development.
Governor Mohammed also stressed the need for collaboration between the PDP Governors Forum and the NWC to resolve internal issues, including ongoing litigations. He expressed gratitude to the NWC for its commitment to upholding the rule of law and supporting the PDP Governors Forum’s stance in Rivers State.
“In Rivers State, where we don’t have the established practice, any governor from the party should be the leader of the party and control its structure for sustainability,” Mohammed said.
Additionally, he voiced the Governors Forum’s support for the North-Central Zone’s right to produce the next National Chairman of the PDP, citing past precedents of regional fairness within the party.
Looking ahead, Mohammed expressed confidence that the PDP would resolve its current challenges and emerge ready to reclaim national leadership in the 2027 elections, building on the party’s past achievements.
