In a recent statement, Adams Oshiomhole, the Senator representing Edo North and former governor of Edo State, has attributed the victory of Monday Okpebholo in the Edo State governorship election to divine intervention. Oshiomhole made this assertion while addressing journalists in Benin City on Sunday, following the official declaration of Okpebholo as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The election, which took place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, saw Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secure 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes. The results were closely watched across the state, marking a significant political shift in Edo.
Oshiomhole, in his address, expressed his belief that the outcome of the election was divinely orchestrated. “What God cannot do does not exist,” he declared, emphasizing that the election was about the people’s choice rather than a “do or die” affair.
The Senator also took the opportunity to criticize the outgoing administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki, describing his tenure as disastrous for Edo State. “Today, God, by His infinite powers, has decreed that Senator Monday Okpebholo make up for eight years of disaster caused by Obaseki and Asue together,” Oshiomhole stated.
The victory of Okpebholo and the APC in Edo State is expected to usher in a new era of governance, with many in the state hopeful that the new administration will address pressing issues and bring about positive change.
