Obaseki Pledges to Accept Edo Election Results

Obaseki Pledges to Accept Edo Election Results. Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has vowed to accept the outcome of the upcoming gubernatorial election, provided it is conducted fairly and citizens are allowed to vote freely. The election is scheduled for this Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Obaseki made the commitment after a meeting with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Gwabin Musa, where they discussed security measures and ensuring a transparent electoral process.

“I believe the CDS is well-equipped to understand the national security implications of the Edo gubernatorial election,” Obaseki stated via his official X handle, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful, non-partisan process.

The governor highlighted his administration’s efforts to improve security in Edo State, noting, “For 8 years, the security forces have been highly cooperative… We have established Forward Operating Bases and a digitised security system that has made Edo one of the safest states in the nation.”

Obaseki urged Edo citizens to exercise their voting rights without fear, reassuring them that the election would not undermine the state’s progress in security. He concluded, “We will accept the outcome of a properly conducted election. Edo citizens should be free to go to the polls to elect the candidates of their choice.”
