Nigeria’s Population Projected to Increase by 54% by 2050, Global Population to Near 9.6 Billion
According to the recently released 2024 World Population Data Sheet by the Population Reference Bureau (PRB), Nigeria’s population is projected to grow by 54% by 2050.
This significant increase is expected to further solidify Nigeria’s position as one of the world’s most populous nations.
The report also reveals that the current global population, which stands at over eight billion, will reach nearly 9.6 billion by 2050.
These projections underscore the growing demographic pressures both in Nigeria and globally, with implications for resources, infrastructure, and development planning.
The country’s rapid population growth is anticipated to bring both challenges and opportunities, particularly in areas like education, employment, healthcare, and housing.
