Nigerian Soldier Private Ruth Denies Mental Illness Claims, Alleges Harassment and Cover-Up
In a shocking revelation, Nigerian soldier Private Ruth has come forward to deny claims by the Nigerian Army that she is mentally ill. In an exclusive interview with AIT, Ruth recounted her experiences of harassment and victimization at the hands of her superiors.
“Col. Abdulkareem will give me an injection, then strip me naked and throw me in a mental hospital, where Gen. IB Solebo and others will come and snap me,” Ruth alleged, describing the threats she received after refusing Abdulkareem’s advances.
Ruth claimed she was denied opportunities within the military due to her refusal. “I wasn’t allowed to take a military course because I wouldn’t sleep with him. As a result, I wasn’t allowed to see my family for years. I was denied so many things in the army that… my security in the army.”
Ruth expressed frustration over the lack of action taken despite reporting the incidents. “After going to the legal service to complain and nothing was done, after going to the military police and nothing was done, because he’s my superior, I’m his subordinate. I was looking for justice, but nothing was done.”
Desperate for help, Ruth turned to social media. “That January night, I complained on social media, and the Minister of Women’s Affairs stepped in.” The Nigerian Army subsequently launched an investigation.
As part of the probe, Ruth underwent medical review and drug testing. “The Nigerian Army stated that they would investigate, and they did so. For the probe, they took me to the national hospital. The police took me to NDLEA to find out if I illegally use drugs. After taking me to the national hospital for medical review, the results were negative.”
