Angelique Kidjo has officially submitted her track “Joy,” featuring Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido, for consideration in two categories at the upcoming 2025 Grammy Awards. The Beninese singer shared the news on Saturday through a post on her verified Facebook account.
Kidjo’s track “Joy” has been entered in the categories of Best African Music Performance and Record of the Year. In addition, another of her works, “Sunlight to My Soul,” featuring the Soweto Gospel Choir and written by renowned songwriter Diane Warren, has been submitted for Best Global Music Performance and Song of the Year.
In her announcement, Kidjo expressed deep appreciation for the artists and collaborators who contributed to the success of the songs submitted for consideration.
“Joy,” featuring Davido, was released on August 30, 2024, marking their second collaboration following their 2023 hit, “Na Money.”
Though Davido did not win at the 2023 Grammy Awards, he made a strong impact with three nominations, including Best Global Album for his fourth studio project, Timeless. His tracks “Feel” and “Unavailable” also earned nominations for Best Global Song Performance and Best African Song Performance, respectively.
The 67th Grammy Awards will take place on February 2, 2025, in Los Angeles. Nominations for the prestigious event are scheduled to be announced on November 8, 2024.
