The Imo State Police Command successfully foiled an attack on the Njaba Divisional Police Station on Sunday, neutralizing at least three suspected gunmen during the violent assault.
In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, the attack was carried out by hoodlums who arrived in three SUVs, opening fire on the police station. Police operatives, however, quickly took defensive positions and engaged the attackers, repelling the assault and killing three of the suspects.
The remaining assailants, who sustained gunshot wounds, fled into nearby bushes. Okoye noted that a manhunt is underway, led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, to apprehend those still at large.
Items recovered from the scene include a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), one AK-47 rifle, and three vehicles: a Toyota Lexus 470, a Mercedes GLK, and a Toyota Venza.
CP Aboki Danjuma commended the bravery of the officers and assured the public that the police force remains committed to enhancing internal security in the state, working to bring those responsible to justice.
