House of Reps Probes EFCC ₦15m Bribery Allegations Involving Bobrisky

House of Reps Launches Probe into Alleged ₦15m Bribery Scandal Involving EFCC, Bobrisky, and VeryDarkMan

The Nigerian House of Representatives has launched a formal investigation into a bribery scandal involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), social media influencer VeryDarkMan, and controversial celebrity Bobrisky.

This comes after allegations surfaced claiming that Bobrisky paid ₦15 million to EFCC officials to dismiss money laundering charges against him.

The investigation, initiated by a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Patrick Umoh, a lawmaker from Akwa Ibom State, seeks to probe the integrity of both the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).

VeryDarkMan, a popular social media personality, first brought attention to the case when he released a viral voice recording accusing Bobrisky of bribing EFCC officers to secure lenient treatment, including being housed in a VIP facility instead of a regular prison following his conviction on naira misuse.

Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, had been previously arraigned on charges of money laundering totaling ₦127 million. The charges were dropped after an alleged agreement with the EFCC, sparking widespread criticism.

The House of Representatives has invited the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, along with Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan, to testify before a joint committee on financial crimes and reformatory institutions.

The EFCC has since opened its own internal investigation, with Chairman Olukoyede pledging a thorough inquiry into the bribery claims. Both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan have been asked to cooperate with the investigation, which will report its findings within three legislative weeks.

This high-profile case has captivated the public and raised serious questions about corruption within Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies. The outcome of the investigation could have significant ramifications for the EFCC’s credibility and the future of anti-corruption efforts in the country.
