Ekeoha market demolition begins for remodelling. The phased demolition of the Ekeoha Market, popularly known as the Shopping Centre in Aba, has officially begun. This move is part of the Abia State government’s plan to remodel the market to meet international standards.
The government aims to enhance safety for traders and customers, while also positioning Aba as a hub for business opportunities. The first phase of the demolition commenced on Thursday, targeting the decked shops along Ehi Road.
Governor Alex Otti, during the project’s flag-off in August, assured that original shop owners would retain their shops after the remodelling. He emphasized that the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project will be executed in phases to prevent business disruptions.
Despite these assurances, some traders, led by Chris Uruakpa, have raised concerns. They have filed a lawsuit at an Aba State High Court, citing delays in the remodelling process.
Meanwhile, those affected by the initial demolition phase have urged the government to expedite the reconstruction of their section, allowing them to resume business as soon as possible.
