Criticism Mounts Over Ebonyi First Lady’s Lavish Convoy and Public Display
The First Lady of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudlin Nwifuru, has come under fire for her extravagant convoy and public image.
Social media influencer and political critic, Nwoba Chika Nwoba, voiced strong objections to the first lady’s display of wealth, calling her convoy “intimidating” and accusing her of rivaling the governor’s own procession.
In a Facebook post that has since gone viral, Nwoba expressed concern over the apparent excess, pointing out that there is no legal “Office of the First Lady” in Nigeria, making such grandeur questionable. According to Nwoba, Mrs. Nwifuru rides in bulletproof Escalade SUVs, Mercedes Sprinter buses, and other luxury vehicles, accompanied by a security detail that he described as “ludicrous.”
He did not hold back in his critique of the first lady’s fashion choices, calling her appearance “very showy” and suggesting that her style reflects more on ego than public service. Nwoba added that her behavior mirrors what he called “the ego of flamboyance embedded in every average Ikwo woman.”
Furthermore, Nwoba questioned the use of public resources for the convoy, pointing out that the funds could be better utilized for meaningful projects.
“The cost of these vehicles in her long convoy could take three thousand Ebonyi children off the streets permanently,” he wrote, urging Mrs. Nwifuru to reconsider her public persona and the use of state funds.
