Bashir Ahmad Criticizes Senator Ndume’s Claim on Boko Haram Defeat
Presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has responded sharply to a statement by Senator Ali Ndume of Borno, who credited former President Goodluck Jonathan for defeating Boko Haram.
In a tweet on October 1, Ahmad found the claim “hilarious,” pointing out that historical records suggest otherwise.
According to Ahmad, when President Muhammadu Buhari took office in 2015, 17 local government areas in Borno were fully under the control of Boko Haram insurgents.
He noted that large parts of Borno, including Ndume’s hometown, along with areas in Yobe and Adamawa, were inaccessible due to insecurity. Critical infrastructure such as airports, schools, hospitals, and markets had been shut down during that period.
Ahmad emphasized that by the time Buhari left office in 2023, Boko Haram had been largely defeated, marking a significant shift in the state’s security landscape.
“By the time President Buhari left office in 2023, Boko Haram had largely been defeated and technically became a thing of the past,” he stated.
