Apostle Peter Arraigned for Defaming Gospel Singer

Apostle Niyi Peter Faces Legal Action Over Social Media Post Labeling Omije Ojumi ‘Prostitute Singer'”

Apostle Niyi Peter, a cleric from Osun State, was arraigned in court on Wednesday for allegedly defaming gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi.

The gospel singer had filed a petition against Apostle Peter, accusing him of posting defamatory content on social media, tagging her as a “prostitute singer” in April 2024.

According to the charge sheet, Apostle Peter’s actions were likely to disturb public peace by spreading false and damaging claims about Omije Ojumi. Additionally, he allegedly sent a threatening voice message to the singer, stating that she “would perish and never rise again.”

Apostle Niyi pleaded not guilty to the charges. His lawyer, Mr. Okobe Najite, applied for bail, which was granted by Magistrate Dr. Olusegun Ayilara in the sum of N1 million with two sureties. The sureties must be government employees.

The case has been adjourned until October 22, 2024.

Meanwhile, another cleric, Pastor Mike Ademisoye Babamojigbare, has called for an amicable resolution to the conflict between Apostle Peter and Omije Ojumi.

“This issue can be resolved through dialogue and forgiveness,” Pastor Babamojigbare said. “Let’s avoid actions that tarnish the image of Christianity.”
