Abdulmumuni Abiola, a son of the late Nigerian billionaire and politician Moshood Abiola, has revealed details about his father’s will, which allocated £650,000 to his first four wives. Abdulmumuni shared this on the “Mic On Podcast,” hosted by Seun Okinbaloye of Channels TV, with the video released on Saturday.
The will, displayed during the program, outlined the financial distribution to the four wives: Simbiat, the first wife, received £300,000; the second, Kudirat, was allocated £150,000; Moriamo, the third, got £100,000; and Idiat, the fourth, was also given £100,000.
Abdulmumuni, son of Kudirat Abiola, expressed frustration over his older brother, Kola Abiola, for allegedly withholding their rightful share of the inheritance. He claimed that despite conducting blood tests to confirm the legitimate heirs entitled to the will, Kola had not released their mother’s share of £150,000, citing her death prior to their father’s passing.
He explained that Kola argued British law prevented him from releasing the funds since their mother died before Moshood Abiola, but Abdulmumuni felt this was a weak excuse, stating, “If he wanted to, he could have given us the money.”
Abdulmumuni further accused Kola of selling their mother’s apartment in the UK without informing the siblings, which he saw as part of a systematic effort to marginalize their mother’s side of the family. He said, “I don’t think I will be able to forgive him for that.”
Recalling his family’s financial struggles, Abdulmumuni shared how he and his siblings, particularly his sisters, had to take on odd jobs to make ends meet while living in the UK. One sister braided hair for locals, while another traveled to U.S. universities to give speeches to earn modest sums.
He reflected on how their situation could have been different if Kola had released their rightful inheritance. “We couldn’t even afford proper shoes for school,” he said, expressing deep frustration over their financial hardships despite their father’s vast wealth.
Moshood Abiola, a renowned businessman and philanthropist, won Nigeria’s 1993 presidential election, which was annulled by the then-military ruler, General Ibrahim Babangida. Abiola declared himself president but was subsequently detained and died in custody in 1998. In 2018, Nigeria’s Democracy Day was officially moved to June 12, the date of the annulled election, in his honor.
