Mason Greenwood Attracts Interest from Top European Clubs

Mason Greenwood attracts interest from top European clubs. After a stellar start to the season with Marseille, Mason Greenwood is drawing attention from several top European clubs, including Bayern Munich.

According to Talksport, Bayern, FC Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid are closely monitoring the English striker, who has impressed scouts during recent Ligue 1 matches. Since joining Marseille from Manchester United this summer, Greenwood has scored five goals in just four games.

His successful loan spell at Getafe last season, where he netted ten goals and provided six assists, has further bolstered his reputation. Should he continue his prolific form in Ligue 1, Marseille will demand a substantial fee for Greenwood next summer. With a significant sell-on clause of 45% in his contract, Manchester United stands to gain if Marseille opts to sell him for at least double the £26.6 million they initially paid.

Greenwood is versatile, capable of playing as a striker, on the right flank, or in the number ten role. He is known for his dribbling skills and finishing ability from both inside and outside the box.

While Bayern Munich had expected to sign a striker this summer, they have sufficient options following the extension of Mathys Tel’s contract and the acquisition of Michael Olise. However, with potential departures of key players like Thomas Müller and Kingsley Coman in the next year, they may still seek a versatile forward, making Greenwood an interesting prospect.

Despite his talent, Bayern should reconsider pursuing Greenwood due to moral concerns. In 2022, he was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, although the charges were dropped in February 2023. Following the controversy, Manchester United opted to loan him out to Getafe and ultimately sell him.

The Bavarian fanbase may react negatively if Bayern were to sign Greenwood, reminiscent of the backlash over last season’s rumored interest in Jerome Boateng. Many fans believe there are other promising young forwards available and would prefer the club to steer clear of Greenwood altogether, even if it means not acquiring any new forwards next summer.
