Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini praises Ademola Lookman’s defensive contribution in their 0-0 draw against Arsenal in the Champions League. Despite La Dea’s attacking intent, they were held to a goalless draw by the resilient Gunners.
Arsenal’s goalkeeper, David Raya, was instrumental in keeping Atalanta at bay, notably saving a penalty from Mateo Retegui early in the second half. However, it was Atalanta’s defensive discipline that impressed Gasperini, particularly the efforts of his forwards.
Gasperini highlighted the hard work of Lookman, Charles De Ketelaere, and Retegui in supporting the defence. “That is our spirit,” Gasperini said. “The defensive work done by Lookman, De Ketelaere, and Retegui was admirable.”
He added that this commitment from his attackers allows him to take more offensive risks. “If our strikers work so hard defensively, we can afford to put more forwards on the field and improve our chances of scoring,” Gasperini remarked.
Atalanta will look to build on this performance as they continue their Champions League campaign.
