The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) assessment team has reported that a flash flood on Yan Kilishi Road, Rigasa, Igabi LGA, claimed one life.
Another severe flood in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, led to the deaths of two children, destroyed farmlands, and displaced hundreds of residents.
The Kaduna State Flood Assessment Committee, led by Governor Uba Sani’s Chief of Staff, Sani Kila, urged residents to avoid building along waterways and dumping refuse in drainage systems to reduce flooding during the rainy season.
Kaduna, located in the North-West, is among the states predicted to experience flooding this year. So far, Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna North, and Jema’a LGAs have been affected, with others on high alert.
The committee visited the impacted areas to assess the damage, provide relief, and educate the public on environmental safety measures to prevent future flooding.
In Sanga LGA, five communities were cut off due to a collapsed bridge, and several houses were destroyed by heavy rains.
