The Super Bowl halftime show, known for featuring iconic artists like Dr. Dre, Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Eminem, will take place on February 9, 2025, in New Orleans. Fans had widely expected Lil Wayne to headline in his hometown, but the NFL selected Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar instead, leaving many shocked and upset.
On Friday, October 13th, Lil Wayne broke his silence in an emotional Instagram video. He expressed his heartbreak over missing the opportunity, particularly since it was in his own city, and acknowledged how much the Super Bowl stage means to artists.
“First of all, forgive me for the delay. I had to gather strength to do this without breaking. I want to thank everyone for the love, care, and support. Your words held me up when I felt like falling back,” Lil Wayne shared. He admitted the snub “hurt a lot” and blamed himself for mentally assuming the position without being prepared for disappointment.
He continued, “I thought there was nothing bigger than that stage and that platform in my city. So it hurt a whole lot.”
Lil Wayne also expressed gratitude to his fans, saying, “It made me feel terrible for not getting this opportunity, but y’all reminded me that I ain’t anything without you. That’s an amazing reality. I’m working on myself, and I’m working.”
