Renowned talent manager, Paulo Okoye, has raised concerns about the current state of Afrobeats, claiming that the genre is facing significant financial struggles both locally and globally. In a recent statement shared on social media, Okoye revealed that only a handful of Afrobeats artists are currently making money, a stark contrast to how the genre thrived three years ago.

“Afrobeats is going through a lot lately!” he began, noting that most artists were in a far better financial position in the past compared to today. Okoye stressed that very few artists are seeing financial success at the moment, adding, “I can count on my one hand the Afrobeats artists who are making money now,” he said.

He went on to describe a broader global decline for the genre, stating that “globally, things are falling apart for Afrobeats,” while also pointing out that the local scene is facing even worse financial conditions. “No money anywhere,” he lamented, highlighting the challenges that many artists face.

Despite these concerns, Paulo Okoye ended on a hopeful note, expressing confidence in the continued success of Afrobeats’ top stars. “Our bright stars will continue to shine, and the world will continue to recognize our greatness,” he concluded.
