Ibadan Man Charged with ₦9.7 Million Data Theft in Network Hacking Case
A 22-year-old man named Emmanuel Alade appeared in the Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court, Ibadan, on Monday for his alleged involvement in a large-scale data theft.
Alade is accused of hacking into the online platform of a recharge card network, unlawfully accessing and stealing data worth ₦9.7 million.
The prosecution, led by ASP Anthony Igori, revealed that the crime took place between January and July in the Badeku area of Ibadan.
Alade allegedly gained unauthorized access to the company’s private webpage, identified as “Yafun Yafun,” and stole mobile recharge cards for MTN, Glo, and Airtel networks. The stolen network data was valued at ₦9,747,050.
Alade is facing charges of conspiracy and theft, which, according to Igori, violate Sections 517 and 390(9) of the Oyo State Criminal Laws. Despite the charges, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
Presiding Magistrate Olaolu Olanipekun granted Alade bail in the sum of ₦1 million, with two sureties required. The case has been adjourned until November 26 for further hearing.
