Bruno Fernandes Apologizes After Red Card in Manchester United’s 3-0 Defeat to Tottenham

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has taken responsibility for letting his team down following their 3-0 loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford.

The defeat was compounded by Fernandes being sent off just before halftime, leaving United to play with ten men for the remainder of the match.

Speaking after the game, Fernandes expressed his disappointment and regret. “I just wanted to come and be honest because my teammates deserve that for all the effort they put in after we went down to ten men. I was the one sent off, and I let them down,” he said.

Despite the setback, Fernandes praised his team’s resilience, saying, “The team showed a lot of character and fight. It wasn’t easy, but they kept pushing.”

Fernandes also voiced his frustration over the decision to send him off, maintaining that while it was a foul, it didn’t warrant a red card.

“In my opinion, it’s never a red card. Yes, it was a foul, but the referee told me he saw clear contact with my studs, which wasn’t the case. I didn’t touch him with the studs or even my foot, it was my ankle. If he wants to give me a yellow because they were going to counter, I understand, but a red card? No, that’s not right.”

Reflecting on the game prior to his dismissal, Fernandes acknowledged that United struggled even before the red card.

“We were forcing things too much, rushing our play, and making mistakes, especially with their high line. We got punished for it.”

Fernandes went on to commend his teammates for their efforts to fight back, despite the disadvantage.

“After the red card, it became even tougher, but I really appreciate the effort my teammates put in to try and get back into the game. They showed great character, even though it wasn’t enough.”

The loss adds to Manchester United’s recent struggles, and Fernandes’ red card further complicates the challenges ahead for the team.
