Gunmen Kill Two, Abduct 40 in Hometown of Defence Minister Bello Matawalle in Fresh Attack
In a violent attack late Saturday night, bandits struck Janboka, the hometown of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, in Zamfara State’s Maradun Local Government Area. The attack left two dead and around 40 people, mostly women and children, kidnapped.
The gunmen reportedly invaded the community, firing indiscriminately and causing panic among the residents. According to local sources, a headcount conducted the following morning revealed that around 40 residents were abducted, despite the presence of local security forces.
Among the two killed were Malam Isah, a local man, and a teenage boy who were both shot while attempting to flee. This attack comes just a week after the release of 10 previously abducted individuals, for whom the bandits had demanded a N10 million ransom.
The people of Maradun are expressing increasing frustration and fear, as the frequency of such attacks continues to rise, despite ongoing security efforts. The police in Zamfara State have yet to issue a formal statement regarding this latest assault.
