Obaseki Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot by Shaibu to Storm Government House
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has raised serious concerns over reports that his reinstated deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, is allegedly planning to forcefully enter the Government House on Monday, September 30, to enforce a recent court decision despite an ongoing appeal process.
Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser to Governor Obaseki, called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the public to step in and prevent what he described as a “dangerous scheme.” According to Osagie, Shaibu’s actions could result in chaos and disrupt public order. He pointed to a previous incident where a police officer lost his life during an earlier confrontation involving Shaibu’s attempt to access the Government House.
“We are alerting the Inspector General of Police to intelligence reports about a planned invasion of the Government House by Comrade Philip Shaibu in a bid to enforce the ruling of Justice J. K. Omotosho,” Osagie stated. He stressed that the legal case is still in progress, with a stay of execution pending at the Court of Appeal, making any attempt to enter the Government House illegal.
Osagie further emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, urging the IGP to take action to avoid potential anarchy. “The last time Shaibu tried this, it resulted in the tragic loss of a police officer’s life. We cannot afford another incident like that, and it’s crucial to prevent any further escalation,” he added.
