Peter Obi Joins Global Leaders in Athens to Tackle Africa’s Poverty and Insecurity
Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 elections, participated in an international forum in Athens, Greece, where global leaders discussed pressing challenges facing Africa, including poverty and unemployment.
Speaking alongside former presidents, government officials, and other prominent figures, Obi emphasized that the widespread poverty in Africa, where over half the population is classified as multidimensionally poor, has direct links to the continent’s security issues.
At the event, which focused on governance, security, and economic challenges, Obi identified unemployment, corruption, and inequality as critical factors undermining peace and stability across Africa. He argued that poverty fuels insecurity and that many nations have failed to invest adequately in essential sectors such as health and education.
Obi warned that non-state actors have gained control of security in several African nations, further exacerbating the situation. He urged future African leaders to adopt bold and transformative policies to promote people-centered development and ensure the well-being of citizens.
