Oba of Benin Denies Oshiomhole's Claims on 2016 Obaseki Endorsement

Oba of Benin Denies Oshiomhole’s Claims About 2016 Obaseki Endorsement During APC Victory Celebration.

The victory celebration for the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the Edo State gubernatorial election took an unexpected turn when Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, publicly refuted claims made by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole regarding the 2016 endorsement of Godwin Obaseki.

Oshiomhole, who was addressing a gathering of prominent APC figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the newly elected governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, knelt before the monarch and expressed regret for supporting Obaseki as his successor.

He claimed that the Oba had advised him against backing Obaseki, a decision he now regrets, believing Obaseki would uphold the traditions of the Benin people.

However, Oba Ewuare II immediately interrupted, asserting that he had never advised against Obaseki’s candidacy. “When you brought Obaseki to me, I did not say anything,” the monarch clarified, indicating that he had not provided any negative feedback about the choice.
