Police, JTF recover explosives and vehicles in Anambra raid. Onitsha, September 21, 2024 – The Anambra State Police Command and the Joint Task Force (JTF) have successfully recovered three unexploded improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and two abandoned vehicles during a raid on a criminal camp in Ihiala Local Government Area.
The operation, which targeted camps in Lilu, Mbosi, and Isseke, was carried out based on security intelligence gathered over time. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Public Relations Officer for the command, confirmed the development in a statement released on Saturday.
“Following the security intelligence gathered over time, the joint security forces, in a planned and coordinated operation, busted a criminal camp. Three unexploded improvised explosives, two abandoned vehicles, and other dangerous materials like copper wires and fuel were recovered,” Ikenga stated.
The raid underscores the security forces’ ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal operations in the region. Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam has commended the operatives for their successful mission and urged them to maintain the momentum.
“The Commissioner has charged the operatives to sustain the tempo of the operations,” Ikenga added. “He further assured the good people of the state of the commitment of the police and other security agencies to continue to dominate and deny criminal elements the opportunity to commit havoc in the state.”
The joint effort between the police and the JTF is part of a broader strategy to enhance security and restore peace in Anambra State. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
